Spinal Patient Receives Stem Cells in First Experimental Treatment

The US News and World Report reports that a partially paralyzed spinal cord injury patient was injected with stem cells on Friday in the first human embryonic stem cell experimental treatment performed on a human. Geron, the company that developed the cells and the first to hold an FDA license to use the cells in treatment, says the stem cells came from human embryos left over from fertility treatments and were converted into nerve cells before being injected into the damaged area of the spinal cord
